A year ago today, I woke up with the realization that the day before, I had been accepted to graduate school in PARIS. In the spirit of growth and perspective, I’ve written Caitlin2010 a note to tell her a little of what she’s in for.
Still smiling, aren’t you? Yes, it’s true: you are going to Paris. This is going to be a big change, a new world really, but an adventure. Roll up your sleeves and get the paperwork over with – yes, it will be confusing and basically miserable, but in the end, your visa will come. Look for God in the details- He’s going to be all over this journey. Now, I know you don’t like it, but you’re going to have to toughen up and you’re definitely going to have to get over the fear of making yourself known to others. Don’t worry though, Paris will force you into this change, you have no other option :). You’re going to find yourself in many situations you’ve never imagined – just go with them. Some days will be lonesome, but He’s going to be there every moment. One of the best things is that you’re about to meet many people who are completely different from you. Prepare to be challenged by these many differences and remember that these people have been brought across your path for a reason. They have stories to tell and lessons to share – give them the chance to show you. Don’t fret: Skype and email and phone calls will be gloriously helpful in keeping you in touch with Texas. Plus, you’ll be carrying them with you every step in Paris – it’s going to be alright. Well, much better than alright. You’ll see.
